On a 1978 model how does one replace the power window motor if the window is all the way in the "up" position?
I can get the door panel off and know where the motor is, but do I have to run that bolt through the regulator to secure if before removing the motor? If so, any suggestions on how to lower the window to get those holes to align?
Shouldn't--take the 3 bolts out of the motor and the bottom bolt out of the regulator so it can swing out just a little at the bottom where the motor is. That lets the motor clear and come out. You bolt the regulator when you have it out and the motor is still bolted to it. Once you bolt it then you take the motor off. When it is in the car and bolted to the glass it is safe to take the motor off--did that yesterday to mine.
I did see them at Advance and will probably snag one there.
Just to make sure I totally understand- I do not want to screw this up-if the window is up all the way you do not have to insert the bolt into the regulator to hold it. Also, does the window need to be secured while it is up (will the window move or fall once the motor is removed)?
