Worked out my tach problem, now the next. I have no ACC. That is the ACC position on the ignition switch. Turn the key to the ACC position and nothing. Electrical system comes to life fine in the "ON" position but nothing at the ACC position. Where should I start troubleshooting???
I have the same problem with my 69 ( I haven't fixed it yet ) but here's what I'm going to check:
1) Ignition switch under the dash attached to the column (most likely culprit, bad contacts, loose connection etc.) Mine also sticks in the crank position.
2) Canister switch in the column (not very likely as there are no electrical connections directly connected here)
3) The actuator rod ( connects from the canister switch in the column to the ignition switch. It could be out of whack so that the ignition switch nevers fully reaches the ACC position.
I know mine is VERY old, maybe even original, I will probably change it either way.
Update: Finally crawled upside down and looked at the steering column. Found the ignition switch and mounting bracket. Loosened the two bolts, slid the switch forward on the column and tightened. Tried the ACC position and BINGO, ACC works. Thanks guys.
I don't think Bubba did that one...maybe his cousin, Rufus. Bubba would have designed a "fix" that would permanently damage other hardware should you try to repair it.
