Installed new carpet in my 71 and looking at the seat tracks they where very dirty. Cleaned them up and now they are bare metal. Do I paint them or just leave them bare metal. Or do I paint them tob match interior or other colr. Any suggestions please.

Best bet is to paint them or they will rust. I had some and they had rusted. Took them out and blasted them and then painted them black, but I guess you can paint them whatever your choice is. I did mine with caliper paint. It just loks better and bound to last longer, but that's just me.

Hi John,
The seat tracks were originally zinc phosphate coated. Eastwood sells a paint that matches pretty well. If originallity dosn't matter I think semi-gloss black or cast blast gray would look good. You can hardly see the tracks once they're in the car.
Regards,
Alan

If you still have the seats out...or have the tracks removed from them...it is best to clean them so there is no grease or oil on them, spray them with a zinc chromate primer or other good primer made to use on bare metal, then paint them with semi-flat black paint. That will keep them from rusting after you install them. Then, before you reinstall them, you need to lube them with [tube-type] white lithium grease. Put some on all surfaces/components that slide or roll against others. Also, you need to cut 'flaps' in the carpet where the seat mounts fit, so that there is no carpet between the floor and those mounts. Just lift up the carpet 'flaps' and push the seat mounts down through them; then bolt them down and put the flap down over the mounts.
