Is there anything special about how the 70 windhsield moldings go on? I bought a pair of pillar molidngs from mid america and I can see the green metal from the outside? Can the fitment really be that bad or am i missing something?

Reason: year clarification
Hi S27,
I bought a new pillar trim for the driver's side of my 71. I really couldn't make it fit well either. I see cars with new interior parts so there must be a way to make them fit better. Besides the fit, the cut out area for the VIN tag seemed to be out of place by about a 1/2" too.
I ended up repairing my original and reusing it.
Regards,
Alan
If the inside surface is not damaged (cracked/split/broken), you are much better off just cleaning up the old one and re-coloring it with vinyl dye. It will look as good as new and it will fit! If the part is damaged, the second best choice is to find a used one in good condition at a swap meet (regardless of color/appearance), then do the same for it.
If the pillars are the foam padded vinyl covered pillars you can pinch them in some for a better fit. If they are the harder plastic made pillar moldings, there really is nothing you can do about the fit.
I got mine from Willcox and they fit great. Kind of a pain to install since I had to drill the mounting holes. They are the soft vinyl covered foam ones.
