I just threw my tape measure n climbed out from under my 80. Aren't the h-shafts supposed to be the same length. I have 1 thats 3/8in. longer, all new a year ago. Can someone tell me correct length? And also, whats the difference between 79 & 80 outer yolks, spindles & bearings? All 80 stuff is new(not done by same as shafts)and I'm going with 79 rear. Thanks!
I don't know if this helps you or not, but I have a complete 78' rear assembly in my garage floor and measuring from center of the universals, those are the same length.
i have an 80 vett just put new u-joints in both rear shafts i held them up to each other while they where bare no joints and they where same lenght. 1980 automatic
Can I put 79 flanges on 80 spindles? I'm putting 79 posi w/373's,79 shafts(79 4spd ujoints same as my 80)and I guess I need to change flanges. All the 80 bearings are new. But I thin my drive shaft is 1in. too short for 79 rear but joints are again same size.

Yes the spindle flanges from 63-79 will slide onto your spindles. All the spindles are the same from 65-82. You need to make sure that you torque the spindle nut to 100 ft/lbs. If the cotter pin hole doesn't line up, go tighter. You also need to make sure that the 79 shafts you are using have a half shaft flange on them.
