Default Need Recommendations for

type of MSD ingnition and distributor as well as a carb for a 1980 L82. Please look in my garage for other mods installed. I will be removing the Mass-flo EFI and selling it. I have a Edelbrock Performer intake already and a 650 cfm Edelbrock carb but a Holly come highly recommended. I`m only looking for about 300 to 350 RWHP and 300 to 400 in RWTQ.

so you have a flattop L82 w/ 72cc aftermarket heads and a rather small HFT cam at about 9 1/2 to 10:1scr. msd ain't gonna make any sig hp ... same for eb/holley carb. Suggest a good HEI dist & a good Qjet carb atop performer intake. I guess you'll see about 350hp at Flywheel ... not wheels.

If you don't want the HEI the price does not become a big factor to me the E-curve stand alone ( no CDI to fail ) would be a really nice street dist. Gets rid of of all the advance weights, bushings, springs Part # 8394. You still have to buy a standard type coil. You can PM JustinD on the forum he has been running one for around a yr. Pretty sure Gkull has a crane cams version digital dist.

350 at the flywheel should put me right at the short side of 300 rwhp. I`m ok with that. So I go with a HEI dist and Qjet carb. 650 cfm?

I removed the EFI system from the car this morning. looked into the Davis United website this morning. Thanks for the info Bozzman3. Went to order the distributor and needed to fill out the info page for the engine. when it got to the cam lift duration I had to do some research on Comp cams website. I got the tech on the phone to ask a few questionsand found out I may have a cam designed for EFI. So now I need to purchase a cam as well. So I need some more help. The setup for my 1980 L-82 will have a Q-jet(or Edel)carb feeding a Edelbrock performer intake and RHS aluminum heads(72 cc). Distributor will be a Davis United. Question is, what cam to use to achieve around 325 to 350 RWRH?. The car as Hedman headers and an X-pipe with 3 inch exhaust.

Curious on why you removed the Mass Flo EFI for a carb.

Something is wrong with it then. You could not give me a carb again after running fuel injection. When tuned and running correctly any good fuel injection system will run circles around a carb. Did you ever talk to Chris at Mass Flo. He will work with you on any problems you have with it.

The cam you should run will be in the 230 @ .050 range and in the .500 lift area. That will give you a nice lope at idle and should provide you with around 330 to 350 HP if everything is tuned right.

Thanks Gordonm. I did talk to Chris, great guy. He was very helpful in helping me to access some general problems and he thought there is more to it than just a program flash. I guess I just believe if it was born with a carb it should die with a carb.
