Default headlight assembly and wiring

Does anybody have a breakdown diagram of how the head lights go back together? 1980 vette. Also does the wiring harness run along the lower part of the rad support?

Hi G,
I believe the front lighting harness is mounted to the hood surround right in front of the hood opening. There are a couple of plastic clips that are part of the harness and screw to the headlight re-inforcement bar under the surround to hold the haress in place. The horns also mount to that bar.
Regards,
Alan

Do you need info on just the wiring, or the entire headlight assembly? I don't have instructions per se, but I tore down my assemblies for my 71 and then rebuilt them as part of my resto project. I documented the process as best I could on my website. Here's a link to what I did http://www.corvette-restoration.com/...estoration.htm

As you tear them down you may find there are several bushings and screws that you want to replace due to wear and corrosion. Most Corvette vendors sell these pieces individually, or as a kit.

Depending on how well your headlights open and close you may also want to consider replacing the actuators. I tested mine by hooking them to a vacuum gauge, pulling a small vacuum on them, and then waiting to see if the vacuum reading stayed the same. If the reading stays the same your actuators are good, if they don't hold a vacuum they are leaking and need to be replaced.

Overall it's pretty easy to do.

Oh, ok. I see by your profile you've got an 80 so your headlights probably aren't the same as on my 71. I'm sure someone will be able to help you out with some pics or schematics though.

My advice would be to take the plunge and purchase the AIM. I prefer the hard copy since I tend to repeatedly pour over AIM pages, but they are also available on CD.
