Default Need a std 4speed mounted picture

I don't know why but I can't seem to be able to figure out how to mount my original shifter to my Muncie. If anyone has pictures to help me understand the following I would appreciate it.

which set of holes in the transmission does it mount to?

When I put the long bolt in, the short bolt hole is not flush with the trans. I would need a spacer. That doesn't seem correct.

The outside shifter arm hits the round exhaust through hole in the frame.

I appreciate any help.

Do you have the AIM? A stock shifter mounts to the transmission support cross member next to the tranny, not directly to the tranny like a Hurst shifter. There were some pics requested this week showing the mount in the general section. Do a search. Alan71 had a few good pics of his 71.

I do have the AIM. I should have thought of that first but I was a little frustrated.

Now I am really confused. The aim doesn't help much. Where can I get this bracket that the shifter mounts to? I don't see it from he usual places.

It's labeled #2 in my '68 AIM pictured below btw they refer to it as the support.

Here's the actual piece.

And I guess you can only buy them used, I found one here for you or I'll sell you mine for $45 plus shipping.

Don't know if this helps... As assembly diagram shows bracket bolts to 3 bolts on transmission, and onto frame. If frame was swapped for automatic frame some mods/holes would need to be drilled for 4 spd mount

A chassis is too interesting looking to cover with the body.

I appreciate the info and as long as it is not bent or deformed in any way, I'll take it. I will send a PM your way.

I don't mean to jack your thread but I'm having difficulty with my setup as well.

We couldn't seem to get the shifter to go to reverse. we took the cross member down and what I notice is that the pin that goes up and down for reverse is just floating and not hitting anything. perhaps you can be of help. Thanks!!!

Hadn't paid attn before but the levers on mine have 2-mounting holes. Look at the pictures in link provided.

Good Luck to all.

I have a 2 mounting hole shifter. The transmission arms are 2 holes. If that was not your question let me know.

This bringd up another question. I assume the closer holes in the arms are for shorter throws but probably harder shifting. Long holes shift easier due to mechanical advantage but longer throw. What are the pro's and cons of each?

Maybe your missing the spring? The pin is just a spacer. It is not the tip of the pin that does anything, it is the side of the pin. It keeps the shifter from being able to move into the reverse position.

I have also the 2 mounting hole shifter in my 68 (I think it's original) but when I tried to use the lower hole the gear shift was stuck some times in 3th gear so I return to the higher hole.
It was nice and feel like a real sport car.
