Default power window help 1980

Ok so I have neglected my car quite a bit and I have been fixing stuff as I go since I finnaly got my job back again now. anyways I can take my driver side window and push it all the way down and up with my hand im not sure what i need to replace? the motor works but im guessing the teeth are stripped or ethier on the regulator any help would be appreciated.

Probably the gear on the motor if you can move it up and down. Check the teeth on the regulator when you get inside though.

Actually, I have to say both gears are probably shot! If the door glass moves freely up and down you may need both gears.

The motor gear probably has a groove worn in it from the regulator gear failure.

I had the same problem on my 79. I ended up replacing the whole window regulator assembly. I found that the bushing that the regulator pivots on and what the spring attaches to had worn down. There was so much slop that the gear's teeth on the motor didn't engage with the regulator. I ended up just replacing the whole assembly since it was a pain to get inside the door and didn't feel like tearing down the window regulator assembly.
