Default What are these wires for?

Can someone tell me how to hook up these wires and what they are for? Also, why does my vette have two door switches (shown in the pics below)? One of them is empty and I think it should be used.

3 Wires in Body Mount #3

Left Door Switch

Other Left Door Switch

The opening in the bottom corner of the door is for the door ajar switch, the one in the door jamb is the courtesy light (dome) switch.

Mines a 68 so possibly if your's is a later year the ones in the bottom corner could be for the alarm system???

The wiring you found under the cover plate is either door ajar lamp wiring or alarm system wiring.

If you want to buy [correct] replacement switches, check-out lectriclimited.com . Parts stores carry 'generic' replacements, but they are not correct and don't fit/work well. Check the wiring schematic for your car to determine if those wires are the correct colors for connection to those switches and to wire them in correctly.

Hi rj,
Here's a couple of pictures of the type of switch 7T1 described and what you're looking for. You do need to have those tiny connectors in new condition to hook up the switches, so make sure you order those too.
Regards,
Alan

Your 74 uses blue and white for the door ajar switch.

I have a '69 with the alarm option. It's long been dead. What on the doors ties into it?

Could you tell if the black wire went to the switch or did it go to the bracket the switch threads in to ?

On your 69 I'm 99% sure the door jam switches are what trigger the alarm.
It was later when they started using the door ajar switch for the alarm.

If your new door ajar switch has room for all 3 wires then install the black along with the other 2.
If your new switch has room for only 2 then attach the black to the base of the switch or switch bracket.

rjag here is a thread with pics and info about the switches that might help. Let me know if that doesn't answer all the questions.
