Default BBC Cam Recommendation for a 461

I've decided to go a different route with my BB due to many reasons. I've decided to do away with the stock iron heads as my comp. ratio would be 11.2:1 with its 108cc combustion chambers! Should have done my research rather than assuming!:o

Also, I've changed my mind on how I want to drive the vehicle. I was mainly making it a weekend warrior that would do the ocassional punishment on the newer Z06's. I think now I've set more realistic goals. When the spring hits in 2010 I want to be able to make this my daily driver until the first snow fall.

My short block currently consists of:
-'90 Mark IV 4 bolt .030 over decked .010
-Factory LS7 crank that I've had internally balanced
-7/16 Dimple rods
-SpeedPro/TRW L2349F-030 (These are forged LS6 replacemnt pistons10.01:1 w/118cc)
-Milidon/Melling High Volume oil pump

I am currently looking at GMPP's rectangular port version of the ZZ502 head. These heads come with 2.25/1.88 valves and 118cc combustion chambers. The reason I would like them to be rectangular is because I plan on making it a top end screamer in a year or 2.

As for the cam, I don't want something too radical, but perhaps something that may achieve about 20 mpg on the highway with my OD tranny. I definitely want something that is over the 500 HP mark and close to 550 FT/LBs. 2 cams that I had in mind were the Comp Cams XR276HR and the XR282HR.. My heart says go with the XR282HR. My brain says go with the XR276HR.. However, I'm not all to convinced about these cams because the lift on both with the 1.7 ratio is .510/.510.

That is why I've given up and want to see what some of you recommend!

Keep in mind, I will be running a Viper T56 with a 3.55 (4.11 is most likely in store for the future) behind this engine. The car will have headers w/ 2" in. primaries and 3 in. exhaust. Also, I will be running a Speed Demon 750.

The viper T56 has 2 overdrive gears. The big block will give you lots of torque. Look at this cam. It is not a real radical cam for your CID. http://www.lunatipower.com/Product.aspx?id=2156&gid=

Yes, I wish Aldo would have gone with the next size up of this cam on his L88 build.

I have the Lunati 60212 mentioned above and it's a great cam. Sounds good at idle but retains low end torque is smooth at low rpm.

Thank you Mako! That looks like the type of cam I've been searching for!

Zwede- what kind of heads are you running? ovals or rect.? Can you give me a little more info about your engine?
