I'm about ready for carpet for my 68 resto project. All the vendors show carpet sets for auto or manual transmission. What difference could it possibly make. The center consoles are the same. My 68 was a 4 spd but I changed it to an auto. So my question is, which one do I need to order ?
Good question, I can tell you that a friend of mine had his '68 converted from 4spd to an automatic (Hand controls were needed) and reused his carpet.
I'd call the vendor and see what they say.
I don't know if you've checked Willcox but they usually have decent prices and they might also have a discount through their forum sale.
Thanks DZ, I looked at Wilcox. Their price is 284.99. Ecklers is 242.24 & Mid America is somewhere in between. They are all 80/20 carpet. I also discovered there is a difference between a convertible & coupe. I have a 68 coupe & convertible & once again I can't see what difference that could make. I'll keep shopping & investigating.
The difference in the carpet set if any would be the floor board. However, I will tell you that the difference is so slight and hidden that it really makes no difference at all.
Should you decide to order this carpet set, just specify year, color and trans. in the notes box. Oh and here is the link for your set:
The TH400 install in the '68 (possibly later cars, too) required a hole be cut in the right side of the tranny tunnel to clear the TH400; The AIM shows the area to cut and a specific panel bonded in over this hole. For that reason, passenger's side carpet should be a tad bigger to allow for the bulge in the tunnel.
Tunnels did not need to be trimmed for standard tranny cars. Order the 4 spd carpet set if you did not add the panel to clear your AT conversion.
Hi,
As for the difference betwee the coupe and covertible carpet... I believe the carpet for the convertible rear bulkhead is cut and bound differently to allow for the deck lid hinges.

Alan
