Default Sound deadener...

I'm restoring the interior of my 74 right now. I pulled up the old carpet and noticed there was no underlay/sound deadener. I'm not sure if they came with some and it was removed but do you guys use it? Also I was looking for some suggestions on where I could find a good deal on a new carpet set? And also did you paint the floor where replacing carpet, if so what paint did you use?

The floor deadener was used, I replaced mine with the new heat barrier kit. It is alot easier to use and keeps things alot cooler at the floor. I did not paint my floor, but that is your choice, as I am sure some do. The carpets and heat shields are available everywhere, you would just have to decide who you want to use.

I used Dynamat extrema on mine before I installed the carpet
set that I bought from Wilcox, I also did not paint the floor I
only made sure that it was clean. The floor Is fiberglass so its
not like its going to rust.

hope this helps,
Riggs.

I put a layer of Dynamat sound deadener down on every interior including the doors and entire rear compartment. Then a layer of Reflectix heat deadening material from Home Depot. I installed new carpet from MidAmerica that included it's own padding. The whole project resulted in much reduced noise and heat. I can now drive my 72 coupe in the Florida summer heat without the AC. Plugging a couple of holes in the firewall didn't hurt either.
This project was worth every penny and every hour it took.
Also I didn't do anything to the floor before starting except vacuum it.

Heat rejection is more important in [most] C3's than sound deadening. But you can do both if you need to. Just check out the throttle action when you get done putting all that under the accel pedal.
