So I need to replace the hard line from my mechanical fuel pump to my q-jet. Can anyone tell me how long of a line I need to purchase. Napa sells hard lines in different lengths already made up to 5 feet in length. All I have to do is bend it.
Hi RTL,
I think it's a good idea to buy a pre-bent line too.
If you decide to make your own remember you'll need to have a tool to bend the line (without collapsing it) and also to flare the end of the line after you slide the fitting on.
Good Luck!

Alan

The cheap tool that is sold in the discount auto parts store for bending brake lines will not work on 3/8 line. Trust me to do it right you will end up buying the prebent in the end.
Best of luck

Agree with the above. The first do-it-yourself fuel line you fab is expensive when you figure in the tools and the 'learning curve' of using the tube-bending and flaring tools.
Also, the best tube bending tool, I've found, is the Imperial 180 Degree tool purchased at Sears,..about $45. The bends have zero evidence of 'collapse'; the tube stays nice and round through the bend. It's great!
Also, smart man, using steel tubing from pump to carb. Everytime I see any rubber hose between the pump and carb I cringe. Very Bubba. Very dangerous. Same fire dangers as running without an air cleaner.
Only reason to bend your own is if you are changing the configuration, for example using a modern inline fuel filter that requires a different from stock fitting. I had a lot of fun bending my own, but I did have to buy 3 different flaring tools before I could get it right!

I just ordered one ready to install from Corvette Central for 29 bucks already bent correctly with fittings.
edit: good job on ordering one...good call. :O)
