Borgueson Install
A little history....
I have a 71 and have been working on this thing for four years now.......body off, new zz4, alum radiator, composite springs all new front end and trailing arms....and everything else I can do to make a better car......that leads me to the Borgueson .....
I had my steering column rebuilt, and front end aligned last oct, and after trailering my car over there, decided to drive it home......first time to drive it anywhere, and was still only 14 miles........
It drove like sh**.........there was about 3/4" of play in my steering wheel, and coupled with the fact I had power steering puddles on the floor of my garage, even with all new parts, ......, I started looking into the Borguson....
I got the kit about 4 days after I ordered it, it was pretty straight forward......It cleared my headers, and bolted right in from the bottom......I had ordered the rag joint, but ended up ordering the universal after talking to one of the techs, as the angle of my drive shaft and box don't line up perfect, for whatever reason.......
With the universal, I had to remove the steering column, and that was the biggest pain in the butt, especially putting back by myself, and lining up the uni on the shaft.....
Finally, today I got everything hooked up and took it out for a ride around the block.....the ride was not very long or fast, but the difference was absolutly incredable...... money well spent.
I want to say a word about their tech support as well......as I stated, I had an issue with the rag, and called.......well, the first guy that I talked to was less than helpful.....not rude, just not informed......I kept playing with it, and decided to call back the next day, and SHAZAMMMM.......I got , I believe, Greg......he was great, knew his stuff, answered all my questions, even some I didn't think to ask, and told me he was available half a day Christmas eve........
I would do this again........
still awhile till I have my project complete, but will report back then when I have a few more miles on it....
Which universal did you use, the one from Flaming River?
Borguson sent me one out, talked to them on a monday, got it new years eve..........a pretty stainless steel one....
reminds me.....I still need to send the rag back for a credit......

Had no real problems with the installation, shafts lined up fine, but it took some time to figure out the routing of the hoses
instructions weren't very clear on thisI have had this set-up in my 68 since last June, no problems & very happy with it!
It's good to hear of another satisfied Borgeson steering box user. Chris O'Shea in Melbourne (Australia, not Florida!) fitted one just before NYE and initially had a leakage problem at the box. By the time I got over there, he had determined that the fittings had not been tightened sufficiently and corrected the problem. He's on holidays now, so I have not been for a drive in it yet, but should have within the week.
I'm hoping to fit the Borgeson box in my car before too long, but it's bloody hot now, in the middle of summer, so I am doing other things.
As an aside, a friend named Kevin from Adelaide has fitted a Borgeson box to his '67 Mustang and is raving about the HUGE difference it has made to his steering. There's probably more Mustangs in Australia than Corvettes, so I expect a lot will be sold Down Under.
Say hello to Eric, Raj and all the others that we met at Hooters Dublin in August. Rose and I can't wait to come back there, but next time we will spend a lot more time in the one area and see more of the people rather than the sights.
Regards from Down Under

Yeah, spend more time with us next time, always welcome!I also had a small leak at one of the fittings a couple months ago, not tight enough, my fault, not the company:o
tarheel, wait till you take it on the freeway, you won't believe the difference! I was amazed at how straight and true the car rode without the constant corrections I always had to make due to slop in the steering system

I changed over from manual and the change from severe understeer to moderate oversteer in hard corners took some adaptation on my part. I'm going to XA with some suspension adjustments this year to try and compensate a little.

What was the reason for your decision to convert from manual to power?
I have manual and do like the road feel, though handling al low speed and parking is a bit troublesome.
However, I have been considering the Borgeson upgrade and would appreciate your sincere comments and experience with this.
Thanks
Lars

The manual box had some play, and my car has auto trans. The manual steering was not a good match for the AT. So while I had the motor out I researched PS options and chose the Borgeson for price, their good reputation, ease of install and the variable ratio. However like I mentioned, it does have some oversteer and is a little flighty at very high speeds...so if your doing any track or auto cross type stuff it may not a good fit. However for good squirrly street driving it has a very nice and responsive feel. A word of caution for all is to ensure all other front suspension components are sound when you installed this upgrade.
