my 69 350/350 4 speed car came from the factory with side pipes. somewhere along the line they were taken off and headers put on. then those were taken off and rear exhaust was put on. im trying to put the side pipes back on. i got used oem covers and pipes. i went to install them and it looks like im missing a part right about the tip on the side covers.
what am i missing?
where to i get it? i looked in Eckler's and didnt find anything.
Hi Frankie,
The rear portion of the fiberglass insulator has been broken off of your insulators. It should extend to just past the end of the chrome plated turn-out. It also lines the inside of the turn-out.
My insulators end about 1/4" before the bottom edge of the dog-leg at the wheel opening.

Paragon sells the entire insulator for $600 each. Doesn't make much sense to go that route. Hope you didn't pay too much for those used covers.
I'm missing the rear braces on my original factory covers. One of the previous owners even went so far as to cut off the tabs on the insulators that they attach to.
Where would we be without Bubba.
I think he has the end pc. just the insulator is broken. He is missing the upper trim moulding. However, I don't think that is an original side exhaust car.
I have the same set up on my 69 350/350 and my backing had not broken off all the way, but almost. I took fiberglass and put it back together and reinforced it as well. I would take the previous suggestion and fab a piece to extend your existing backing plate and call it a day. No one will ever see it.
