Default need help with carb

My quadrajet would not allow the engine to reach higher RPM's without a huge stumble and would also cut out and stumble around hard cornering. I raised the float level to what is way beyound specs but it has cured this problem. Car pulls hard to 6000 rpm. But now I have an off idle hesitation and the car is not smooth at just off idle cruising. The idle is also very low and the car dies if run at idle for a few minutes. Are there any quadrajet experts out there? I need help!

You need to go through the carb and verify its jet/rod setup to spec. Then do the "Quickie Performance Setup" tuning procedure outlined in my paper, which would include replacing the float with a new NitroFill float, setting it to spec, and tuning as described. If this does not cure it, look at timing and total timing, or get my Q-Jet "Problems" paper from me.

My Q-Jet paper shows all available parts and suppliers. If you have an integral choke Q-Jet (1975+) you cannot get primary rods from any source any more - they are not available. GM has discontinued all parts, including secondary rods. Some secondary rods are available from Edelbrock, and jets and some pre-75 primary rods are available from Carbs Unlimited.

Don't try to set up the carb as a 427 4-spd carb if it's not. Set the carb up to its spec for the carb number and tune from there if needed.
