My speedo cable is broken. I know I can TRY to go under the dash and TRY to disconnect it from the speedo...here is my question can I take off the guage panel (5 screws I believe) and get access to the cable or do I have to go under the dash? There is no way my sausage link fingers are going to reach the clip! Thanks!
You probably have to go down under. There is a whole lot more to removing the panel than just those screws you mentioned. Two things, it is easier to get under with the seat removed, only four bolts and makes alot more room, second, as for your fat fingers, you can use a pair of long handle bent needlenose pliers to push on the speedo cable release. Good luck, it isn't that bad.
I figured I would have to go under, but I was hoping there was another way. Is there anything that has to be removed or just get up in there and find the clip? Thanks

Just find the clip, push in on it towards the speedo and pull on the cable at the same time, once you have depressed the clip.
Get some help to gently push on the cable from under the hood, push the clip down and then have your help pull. Beats trying to get 2 hands under the dash while standing on your head.
Next question... why are some cables two piece and some one piece? Two vendors from this site sell a one piece for a 72 and a two piece for a 72. They both say for auto or 4 spd. Mine is a 4 spd and has a two piece. Does it matter if I use 1 or 2?
