Ok, reverse lights were inoperable when I bought the '75. I found the harness today, and plugged them in, but, they stay on constantly with the ignition on. Ideas? looks like they run through the neutral safety switch, so I would assume that it needs to be replaced. Correct if wrong!
hmm...i will have to take a picture so you can see what I'm talking about I guess. coming off the neutral safety switch is a green wire. It meets with a pink wire and goes into an odd shaped (W) style two prong harness. green and pink come out the other side. With it unplugged, no reverse lights. Plugged in, reverse lights at all times with ignition on.
Yes. The reverse lights switch is part of the NSS...at least it is for automatics.
From my experience its fairly unusual for the contacts in the switch to be crossed(melted together),most of those switches had wires for the seat belts also, make sure no one has done some wire switching and created a problem.
( You are most likely correct it needs a new switch)
You didn't mention what type of transmission although I assume it was an automatic. FYI, manual transmission C3 Vettes and a backup light switch right on the transmission case under the car.
