If you are talking about the T56 yes many have done it. I am putting in a T56 from a 06 GTO in mine right now. There are aftermarket T56s that also are available. They are not just bolt ins though. It is a big transmission and requires some work to get it in. Doable but not like the 5 speeds that just bolt in.
The early Camaros used a T5 which is OK if you are making about 300 HP and drive it nicely. They are a weaker transmission by 5 speed standards. The early C4 cars used a 4+3 transmission. They did not use a 5 speed. It was a 4 speed with an attachment of 3 extra speeds. Also a terrible transmission. They later went to a 6 speed.
i have a 6 speed out of a 94 camaro. i want to put that in my c3,
That can be done but as I said before not an easy bolt in. It is a lot longer and bigger than what it is replacing. Nice transmission when it is all done though. Go ahead and do it as it has been done many times.

The 4+3 transmissions got a bad rap because of the overdrive unit in the early years. Improvements were made in 1986 and again at least one more time. The entire thing was quite long because it was a 4 speed with an overdrive unit (basically a 2 speed Powerglide) on the rear which gave OD in gears 2,3 and 4. Hence, the name 4+3.
My 1984 was the first year for it and held up very well until I sold it at nearly 60,000 miles. As far as I know, the new owner has not had any problems with it. The secret to longevity was to keep the fluid and filter changed in the overdrive unit.

The 6 speed from a C4 in your original post is not a T56, its a ZF trans, which is much bigger, and probably wont fit without modifying the trans tunnel.
The T56 out of the '94 camaro will go in much nicer than the ZF. I assume that you have an '81 vette (from your username) What transmission is in it now? If it is a 700r4, The T56 should go in with little to no modification to the crossmember. I recently put a T56 from a '93 camaro into a '55 chevy which previously had a 700r4. Used the same driveshaft and crossmember, along with the pull style hydraulic clutch from the camaro.
Your 81 should have the Turbo 350 Lockup. I think the camaro Trans will be a T-56 and not a ZF. If it is a ZF its a great Shifting Trans but there are not many aftermarket Parts for it. On the Street it needs the Stock reverse pull dual mass Flywheel Clutch setup. For all the info You would ever need go to ZF Doc .com
One other consideration, your rear end ratio. The 6th gear in most T56 is 0.5:1. If your rear end ratio is 3.08 or 2.7...something, you'll never be able to use 6th gear. I had a 3.08 so I put in a Richmond 6 speed. It's available in a huge range of ratios for all the gears. I used a 0.76 OD.
