I have a 1974 coupe that came with A/C. Some parts are missing, some lines have been cut, and so on. I dont want the car to have A/C or look like it had the system. Just not a fan, would never have it work, and I dont think it does much for the look of the engine compartment. All that said, can the system be removed and replaced with the parts from a non A/C. I know of a donor car that I could get the parts from but I am not sure if everything will fit without a problem. I know the heater core cover from the non A/C car looks to have the same bolt pattern, etc. Will the heater controls (console) fit/work without a problem, can the manual vent levers on the center console be installed and work without a problem. I have a lot of time on my hands and I am not to concerned with the cost, I just want it to look like the car was delivered without A/C. Any and all help would be appreciated.
SHAKERATTLEROLL, I clicked on the link and it didnt get me anywhere. I tried a few different things in the search box and nothing of help came up. If there is a thread that answers my questions, please forward me the link or title so I can view it.
Well I just clicked on the link of which gave me a list of threads of which to find the info. But you can go up to the Search option and click on it then click on advanced search and put in A/C Delete and on which forum click on C-3 tech then hit ok to search.
It might be difficult to remove the doghouse for the AC Evaporator core with the engine in place. If you don't care about saving it, you can cut it up to remove it. The non AC doghouse may not match up exactly to the AC opening in the firewall, so some "repairs" may be in order to make it serviceable.
I just don't see the advantage of removing all the "internals" from the A/C system. Just remove the compressor, its brackets and hoses and let it go at that. If you sell it in the future, at least the 'difficult' stuff is still there. I can't imagine too many folks in TX not wanting A/C in their cars.
