Default 1982 Crossfire problem with idle

Hello, new to the forum. I have a 1982 vette with the crossfire injection. I having trouble getting it to idle correctly. It goes from fast to slow. It spurts out a shot of gas from both injectors,then very little gas so it slows down sometimes enough to die. I replaced one bad IAC moter, cleaned the other one, replaced temp switch, fuel filter, plugs, wires,coil, cap,rotor, ERG valve. Now I'm told I may have to replace the fuel pump or maybe the computer. Also, the EGR vacuumn solenoid looks bad, but nobody seems to have one. There was one on ebay, but it looked worse than the one I have. Any suggestions? Thanks. Sal

It is most likely your fuel pump. in 90% of the cases thats what it is. There is a remote possibility the rubber hose on the pump in the tank has deteriorated.

Change the pump with an 85 pump.

By the way welcome to the forum. You will get a lot useful information here.

I have a 82 also and had this same problum and did all you did. then i changed the fuel pump with one from an 85, like jdp said. its been runing great for 5 years now, untill i got some gas with water in it a few days ago. the 85 puts out a little more psi and thats what these car's needs. its a simple job. if you need more info on how to, just say so, we'll wlk you tru it

Had the same issue and managed to fix it doing the following.

1. Replaced fuel pump and filter. (small improvement)
2. Re-gasket the Throttle Bodies (found previous owner hadn't assembled them properly) (not much of an improvement but gas no longer leaked from them)
3. Replaced the Throttle Position Sensor (big improvement)

I had just about the same problem that you discribe but not quite as bad.

The fix for me was to replace the fuel pump and filter and the adjust the fuel pressure up to 13 lbs from the original 9 lbs. I can't believe the differance this has made the the drivablity of my 82.

I've also changed the ECM Chip and added MSD6A but the biggest bang for the buck was the fuel pump and higher fuel pressure.

Hey jdp6000, your car looks exactly like mine except maybe for the wheels. On the 85 pump, are there any modifications that need to be done to install? Back to the picture, I tried to upload pictures of mine, but for some reason they don't show. Thanks, again

The pump is eactly the same. The wiring connectings have changed a bit but the pump comes with instructions. There is a gasket around the top of the lid that you should change too.

Remember the angle of the float when the pump comes out. You need to get it in with the same angle or it will get hung up and your gas guage will not work.

I found you had to post pictures on photobucket then copy the URL to the message...use that icon with the mountain in the message tools.
