Default 69 Upgrade questions

Hi Guys,

Looking to buy a 69 coupe and would like to add the following: PS, PB, sidepipes, L88 hood plus labor to paint and AC. Can anyone give me a ballpark cost: on each, conservative is best using aftermarket replica or NOS parts. (except for the AC). Parts and labor would be helpful. THANKS confused:

You're gonna spend a lot.

- A/C Conversion is ~ $1000 for the kit, probably that same amount to install (if not more).
- Sidepipe Kit, if you want it to look FACTORY is going to run you $2500 + shipping for the covers and another $1100 for the pipes. I would imagine it's at least 6 + hrs to install (so caluclate at your local shop rate). You'll also need the correct rear valence, which will have to be painted so probably another $500 + for the part, paint, install, etc.

- Power Steering conversion kit is about $800. That's easily a 4hr job.

- Power Brake conversion kit. I'm not sure what all goes into converting to power brakes. You're in $200 for the booster + master cylinder. You'll need the correct fitting for the intake manifold. Not sure if the brake pedal is the same but I do know you need to get up under the dash to remove the old M/C so that's a pain. There are probably some new hardlines since the M/C location is different. I expect thats another 4+ hrs labor.

This is all for aftermarket parts. I can't even imagine what NOS sidepipes are going for.

Here's a thread on what's involved in the power brake conversion

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...er-brakes.html

Unless you a) are getting the car for really cheap, or b) the car has some sentimental value.. hold out to get a car with the features you want installed from the factory.

Finding a car with PS/PB should not be hard. A/C won't be that hard either if it's a SB. Sidepieps.. that might be tougher.

It will be much cheaper in the long run, and the car will hold it's value better as it will be all original. Just my $.02.

Hi PLH,
I agree with CC.
You may well find a car with p/s and p/b. It might/might not have a/c. Adding a/c to a car is quite a bit of work compared to adding p/s or p/b.
The likelihood of it being a real side exhaust car is slim. You might find a car that's had them added is possible, but? The cost of the exhaust, covers, rear valance and paint is maybe $3500.
I think the L-88 hood is tough too. From what I read they take a LOT of body work to fit WELL and depending on the type, color, condition of the paint on your car, may be a bear to match... maybe the whole front clip ends up being painted.
NICE plans for a 69!!!
Regards,
Alan
