So it's about time to install the new exhaust. I have hooker comp full
length headers and I plan on going through typical 2.5 and I wanted flowmasters as I love them soo on every vehicle I've heard them on. Only problem is that my muffler guy advised strongly against them
as a result of major drone. Alternatives and experience anyone perhaps some nice sound clips and vids

thanks
Yes, but have you ever heard them on a C3 when they are located in the very rear and not within so many inches of the collector like Flowmaster recommends? I have Flowmasters Super 44's and they sound like tin cans until they warms up.. Get yourself a set of Spintechs.. This isnt my car but its sounds pretty good for just being a mildly built motor..
FWIW......I have flowmasters on my 06 Chev pickup. Was thinking of getting a set for my Vette, but I agree, the drone is awful. Lugging the engine, uphill at 35mph its the worst. At 50+ they're OK......but just OK.
If i was doing it again I'd spend the extra $150 or so on a Magnaflow setup on my truck.
Up here in Ontario Canada there is a manufacturer of exhaust components called MBRP ( www.mbrp.com ). They have Vette exhaust kits, but no c3 kits. Ive heard good things about them, but no experience.

Everyone complains about flowmasters on vets.....ohhhh the drone drives me nuts Most of these mufflers people complain about are the 40 or 44 series (two chamber.) It says right on their website that these mufflers have a certian amount of drone or resonance to them.
Today I'm having the flowmaster 50 series (three chamber) installed on my car, and I'll report back with a vid on the finished product.
I've had Flowmasters and I've had Magnaflows. The Flowmasters were very loud, very raspy and I was afraid they would shatter windows when driving through neighborhoods. Magnaflows have a deeper rumble and low burble at idle and opens up with rpm's.
A lot depends on the sound you like. I prefer the Magnaflows, but based solely on sound...they're both of excellent quality.
I have run the Flowmaster Delta Flow 50s on mine for years. They advised against the 40s as they are very noisy. I'm glad I did what he said. The 50s are plenty loud when on the go pedal but are fine while driving. I have an H pipe and don't notice any drone. A lot has to do with the motor build also. They will sound different on every car you put them on.
Check out youtube and search keywords, corvette, flowmaster. There are tons of video/audio of flowmasters on vettes as well as other cars. With a hot engine combo, it is tuff sound to beat. Lots of opinions about muffllers out there. Just really comes down to what you will like. Seems like the older gents out there prefer a quieter sound.
My $.02, Flowmaster super 44's are badass. I have them installed in the stock position, none of that inches from the collector bs. They do have a significant drone which helped me pinpoint all of the loose stuff in my interior Tightened everything up and now the cab is quiet, drone still vibrates you a bit but I really like it. They have a deep throaty rumble at low rpms that I frequently set car alarms off with when I am parking in the garage at my college. At high rpms they sound really free flowing, great tone. Ok sorry for the 44 rant, that was more like $.05 but if you like to pose your car as mild-aggressive than 44's are great.
p.s. Super 40's are too big to install on a vette, they are truck mufflers. The 44's are the small car alternative that approximates the sound of the 40's.

I have been running 50s with a Dr. Gas X-Pipe also for a few years. I only have a drone when the wife is in the car!!! When I am alone, I just never let it get below or hold it at about 2500RPM (sweet spot for the drone).......
Thanks so much for the feedback. The thing I love about the flowmaster is the sound and how violent it can get. I have a og 40 on my 5.3 in my 00 chevy. I absolutely love it. but cruising on the freeway at 2300 kind of makes my ears bleed where I have to roll my windows up. At the same time I would never replace it because I love the sound so much a nice soft rumble at idle really windy at WOT and a nice tone in between. I can tell that the true dual flowmasters might be a little hard to deal with in the c3 cab.
What was it you guys were saying about placing it near the collector and what not?
I really wanted that untamed free flowing sound on the vette. Not completely obnoxious but loud for sure.
Most brands I've heard are too tame, but I'd be interested in the borla just soudns expensive. I think in the end I'm still gonna go with the flowmasters just for the love of the sound.
Here is a vid of my truck doing at burnout at school :P
Is there a way to turndown the drone a bit on the vette with flowmasters?
Get an x-pipe or H-pipe, but if you want the flowmaster sound... you have to get flowmasters. Listen to the video I posted earlier, that is my C3 with true dual Super 44's. Its nice and agressive, but you can keep it quiet by shifting below 2000 rpms in town.
OK....I'm probably alone in this - but I LIKE the drone ! I like setting off alarms ! LOL....no, seriously...I like it loud..I think they sound great...but hey - to each his own...
I have Magnaflows on my 383 w/ headers and they sound AMAZING.
My shop put them on b/c they happened to be on sale at the time. Figured we'd give them a try. The tech said they are the best sounding exhaust he's put on a vette and they were big flowmaster guys.
Frankly the Magnaflows are the best sounding exhaust I have on any of my cars. They sound MEAN when you get on them, but the cruise sound is docile - you still get a good "muscle car" sound but it's not droning or annoying at all.
2 1/2" Flowmaster 50's just installed today. Louder in the passenger compartment, more so under 1500 RPM, than the 2" turbos that were on. ABSOLUTELY NO DRONE OR RESONATING with my stick shift car....heres a vid
Had flowmasters 40s 2 chamber, and now magnaflows. Flowmaster interior noise was deafening. Magnaflows are better, but still loud, and I have to say, unscientifically flow better. I can feel the air flow from behind the car from around 9 feet, where the flowmasters were at about 3-4 feet.
