The rocker panels on my '80 are aluminum as is the trim around the t-tops. I've been told that it's not stock.. is that true? I like the aluminum rockers but one side is damaged.. Looks like bubba tried to buff out the aluminum and took off the top layer in one section. Should they be painted flat black?, Semi gloss or High gloss to match the car.. Any help is appreciated!
the ones on mt stock 80 are an aluminuim high gloss black..well they were dull when i got them but i used a little rubbing compond and then waxed them reaaly good and there nice and shiny now :D
I know it's personal choice.. but do you go with high gloss to match the car or flat black which I hear is the original look. Whatchathink looks better.. I haven't really noticed before and I don't see too many vettes this time of year in Connecticut..

Re: Rocker Panels (Koz)
If it means anything to you, I think your car looks fine with the panels that are on your car now.
I think True Duals has a car just like yours. See what he has.
I just re-painted the ones on my CE. Used Semco trim paint, semi-gloss black and it looks perfect. Some guys in my club thought I replaced with new. I have the paint # if you need it. Let me know. Just my .02
Never heard of Semco paint.. Then again I've never painted anything but my house..
If you can let me know the paint number and where to get it I'd check it out.
Eddie 96 : Thanks.. I like the look of the polished aluminum too and the passenger side looks ok.. the drivers side has a section about the size of a softball that had the finish buffed right out. Last year I had people asking me what I hit.. It's something that's more noticable than what's in the picture. Local body shop said they could paint them for about $300..
The Chevy dealer said he could do it for about $50. Also said that if I wanted to replace them with brushed aluminum I had to get a '77 I think, but that I would have to cut them to fit.. I'm leaning toward the semi gloss black to match the car for $50 but if I can paint them myself I'll have the extra paint for touchups..
Koz, I was wrong, sorry. It is SEM trim paint #39143. I bought it in an aerosol can. I got it at a local auto paint/chemical store. Can't find it in Wlamart, Autozone, etc. Look in yellow pages for "automobile paint supplies" that's where I found the store to get it. Hope this helped and sorry about listing the wrong name initially
As far as painting them. The can cost me $9 and I put 2 coats on and they look great
I used #400 grit sandpaper to roughen up the original finish. I just apinted over that after cleaning it with laquer thinner. Old paint is the best primer :yesnod:
If yours are all aluminum, you will need to prime them first.
