Would like to know what the points should be set at on a dual point distributor. This is a 62 distributor that was on a 327-340hp. It is now on my 68-327-350hp. Appreciate the feed back.
If you get no responses on this in the C3 Forum, you might want to ask in the C2 Forum. That dizzy is a C2 components and they might have more folks who know about it there.
Do each set independently. Gap is the same as a single point - start at .019" and then set dwell at 30*. Disable one set (stick a match cover in between) and then do the other.
The last time I set up a dual point (years ago) it was a mallory distributor and the primary was set first, then the secondary and I used a dwell meter to insure accuracy. If I remember correctly, it was about the combined dwell.

Wow! Last time I saw dual points was around 1963 in a Chrysler 300 with a 413 in it.
Just make me feel older!
Seems that I remember both techniques, don't remember which I used! Which is the primary set?
I've had a petronix in my 350 since 2003. Same gas milage, same everything. It's worked great and has lasted more than 25,000 miles. BUT I'm going back to a points system.
There are lots of posts about petrnix (or APEX ) failing and leaving you to get towed home.
Never happened to me BUT why take a chance?
i had the same problem with a mallory unilght went to pertonx and have not had any prob just goes to show u never know.ps i have had $1000 dollar setups go south too
thanks for the suggestions, not sure which way to go but am really starting to look at the pertronixs set up. The dual point has been some what good but can be double the trouble with 2 sets of points. again thanks for the response
I've run the points setup in my '72 ever since I bought it in 1973 with no problems at all. As far as the Pertronix goes, you'll notice they have a 30 month warranty. That should have told me something right there when I installed an ignitor in my skidsteer, Bobcat 742. The unit lasted a little over 3 years and then just up and quit. Put the points back in and I'm back in business. When the electronics quit, it's 100 percent. No rough running to limp back home.
