In December the cops pulled me over with my 80 Duntov Turbo! They had me going 52 at 30 mph limit. The cops were very friendly. They liked my car and we talked a little bit about my Vette with them. They issued me a ticked but one of the cops said: "Don't worry about the Ticket - I will take care of that. Just request a court hearing and you'll be ok!"
I was wondering why he gave me the ticket in the first place if he wanted to take care of it!
This tuesday I had my court appointment for this ticket.
The cop didn't show and therefore the case was dismissed. The cop really took care of the ticket by not showing in court! Would be great if all the cops would be like that! :)
I got pulled over at 6am on a Sunday morning pulling a work trailer do 55 in a 40.. I couldn't believe it.. I explained where I was go and he said he was going to give me a red warning.. I thought I had to bend over or something... He came back with a ticket that said "read warning." Didn't have to do a thing but I was in the system with a warning next to my name.. Guess if they catch me again no more breaks..!
A few months back my wife and I were arguing about something stupid (it always is in retrospect) and I got all bent out of shape, hopped in the vette and went out for a ride. For reference sake, this was on a friday night around midnight. I was staying pretty reasonable speedwise, till I finally came up to a red light and was the first car at it. Well, lets just say 4 speed + 4.11 rear gears, I roared out of the stoplight (but didn't do much wheelspin). Got about a half mile up the road to see the lights flashing behind me. It was a woman officer, asked me if I knew how fast I was going. I said "Honestly, I have no idea, the dash lights in the car don't work". She said I was doing 70 in a 45. I told her I was just blowing off a little steam on the empty roads since the wife and I were fighting, and she let me go without a ticket. Just "keep the speed down for the rest of the ride".. whew
>>That's great! I work with cops everyday, and a lot of like both
>>sides of the fence. They like to be smokey on duty and the bandit off duty
Many cops don't really like giving tickets because they are speeding themselves off duty too!
However - their job requires them to give tickets! Very often - if you are nice with them -
they will treat you good too and maybe letting you get away with a warning. However
if you are aggressive or lie to them they will be very strict.
"Officer, I was only going 25. Your Radar gun must be wrong when showing 70 mph"
:)
 But try not to press your luck too much as the insurance companies love to jack they,re rate on you when they catch you out there   :seeya
Once the cops pulled me over in my 95 Corvette Convertible (that I owned at that time)
at the Tamiami Trail in the middle of the Everglades with over 85 at a 55 mph limit.
(I was going over 100 but hit the breaks when I saw the cops).
They only gave me a warning!!!!! The officer said: You got to slow down. Last week
we had to pull some speeder out of the swamp...(got off the road speeding) you
don't wan't to end up in the swamp too - especially with such beautiful company
(refering to my girlfriend who was sitting in the passenger seat).
Two year ago when I dug the vette out of storage I was out for a post-fuel-pump-installation test drive. Not having driven the car for six months I forgot just how fast it is. I passed a cop (unmarked) WOT, nose up, tail squatting, pipes roaring. Cop clocked me at 63 in a 35 ! DOH ! No registration, no proof of insurance ( they were on the refrigerator at home). Got three tickets and sent home.
Went to court. Cop ended up dropping all three. I love my town !
Great stories - and  to getting off without the ticket.
I wasn't as lucky about a year ago in my '98 - had to pass a stupid van that was 'toying' with me.... saw a cop up ahead and backed off, but it was the one behind me that pulled me over. :(
Ooops ! - out-of-date insurance, the cop asked "I'm sure you have insurance on this car ?!?" ---yes, officer and he didn't ask anything else.
Yeah, I paid the ticket but at least I didn't have to hassle with the court about insurance.... sometimes I wonder if vettes get 'special' treatment sometimes.
When I drove Camaros - it was more of the attitude, "let's bust this punk kid" :boxing
I've been fortunate for over 20 years now. I've been given several warnings. The best story I have is when my wife and I were coming back from a club on a Saturday night in our one month old C-4 in August of 83. We were going back home on a popular street in Houston for cruising (Westheimer). There were Camaros and a ****pile of Mustangs wanting to see how the new Vette would run. For the most part, I just ignored the taunts, because we had a couple of wines....., honest officer!!!. Being a brand new car, the two wines was accurate. At one lite, a mustang wanted to bust one, so I obliged and pulled him by a length or so, then shut down for the next light, but the police had me, so we pulled over. The best looking Houston police officer I have ever seen, got out and asked for the usual. She was with a younger male officer and they seemed to be in a pretty good mood. Anyway, I pulled out my insurance card and accidently gave her my Shell gas card, stuck to my drivers license. We all started to laugh and she said the way I was driving I would need that card. They let me go with a warning.
I didn't get out of a ticket but ...
Nice summer day, cruising along in the good ol rocky mountains doing some "canyon carving" on the twisties. Look behind me and what do I see? An older Mercedes trying to keep up. Well of course I give it the go and start taking the turns pretty hard. I was doing about 90 and was comming up to the turn , slowed to exactly 72mph. How do I know exactly? Cause thats what the cop told me appeared on his radar gun. Crap... well the ineteresting part is that he had pulled both me and the Mercedes over. Good think I was in first place, I had started to brake for the turn. The Mercedes was not so lucky, he got clocked at 85. Im 23 and it was my first ticket. 50bucks and 2 points with a reduced fine. Im glad I was in first place, or I would have been going faster.
I've been lucky more often than not with speeding tickets. Shortly after I bought a new Grand Prix GT last year, I had it out on a highway posted at 55 MPH and was cruising aroung 100. For an unknown reason I slowed down to 75, and shortly saw the flashing lights behind me. The first thing the trooper asked was "Do you know how fast your were going?" "No, Officer." "You were doing 75!" He decided to let me off with a warning because of my good driving record.
>>He decided to let me off with a warning because of my good driving record.
A good driving record helps in that situation!!!
I also got away a few times because my record is pretty good. (My Radar Detectors
and my Police Radio Scanner (UNIDEN BCT-12) work fine....)
Snicker, one nite near me I pulled out off the entrance ramp....around some slo moving cars doing the usual 80 mph....took my 72 up to around 130 mph...and
looked behind to be sure no cops...didn't bother with that car in front that said POLICE right across the rear deck....DOOOHHH!!!!
slam on the binders, braking contest, at 50 I decided to let go and let him in behind me....lights, siren,....ok, I"m toast....
he asks how fast I was going....I looked down at speedo and said 80??
he backs up laughing saying loudly NO NO NONONON NO......laughs walks back to his cruiser with my license/papers.....comes back and says,....keep it down next time.....we enjoyed a good laugh....

Re: Got away with speeding! (GrandSportC3)
I drive a Peterbuilt between Kansas City and allk Points in California I run aneywhere from 3600 to just over4000 miles a week hauling groceries anyway I have a number off good stories:) this one is about 3 years old me and a partner were running dubles between Houston and LA we were laid over in Phoenix because the air conditioner broke down in the truck,so we were on our way to a shop to have it fixed when Evil Canevel that a motercycle cop pulled us over, I knew why he pulled us over the truck had no mud flaps, because the trailers landing gear would rip them off in a tern.He asked for our log books and he called in the citys DOT inspection vehiclethen I knew he was a D#@!head anyway ticket for dicrepincy in logbook break out of adjutsment, and no mud flap $500 for me because I was driving and $250 for my partner log violation. :mad anyway company paid the ticket.you think the story is over  A yeaer and a half later on the way back to Kansas City go stoped in Flagstaff AZ guess why torn mudflap he said it was missing. He checks my licence and guess what YOUR LICENCE IS SISPENDED IN AZ :reddevil I told him that the tickets had been paid so he takes me back to a truckstop and tells me Im shut down for 8 hours and to get it cleared up before I leave.I'm on the cell phone for the next 5 hours with the Phoenix court house and my wife is calling the Flagstaff court house trying to clear up this mess.
Would be great if all the cops would be like that!
Well, flame away if you like, but since no one else has said different, I'd like to say that NO, I don't think it would be great.
You might as well forget speeding. I often run 5mph over the posted limit just so I won't get run over in the "slow" lane.
I'm certainly not glad that people seem to think they can go through a red traffic light for about 5 seconds after it's turned red. That almost cost me my Corvette when I was cruising up to an intersection, hadn't stopped yet, and my light turned green. I started to accelerate and had a car fly in front of me. If I had been going just a little faster or accelerated a little harder when that light turned he would have creamed me.
On the way home today on a two lane road, I was stopped behind someone turning left. After they turn, I start to go only to have a car passing me on the right. Did they slow down, heck no, they sped up and cut me off.
Sorry I can't sympathize or congratulate you on getting off without a fine. Personally, I think it's becoming a worse problem every day. The fact that the cops are breaking the law and failing to uphold the law does NOT make me feel good about driving on the roads today.

there is a big difference between driving 15 - 20 mph above the limit on a multi-lane road with light traffic and driving reckless. Running red lights or cutting people off or any other action that puts other drivers in danger should be punished. One time I got ticketed for driving 91 at 70 limit on an empty Interstate. I didn't put anybody in danger but still had to pay a pretty high fine. The police should rather punish those who are not using their direction signals in heavy traffic, cutting people off and running red light!
Here's my latest "near ticket experience"... I hope your're ready for this!!!
OK, me and the wife have the dog at the field. I am trying to get the dog to fetch a ball, and the wife has the leash with her, but she has just scooped the poop and is about 50 yards away making a deposit at the trash can. So, sure enough at that moment one of our local police officers drives up onto the field in his squad car (lights were not flashing!). i grab the dog's collar and smile sheepishly at the officer. He tells me they have gotten lots of calls from neighbors complaining about dogs running loose on the field, and he is not supposed to give warnings.... but he does anyway. Poor guy, doesnt like this part of his job, but they must respond to the phone calls. So we chat a bit, leash the doggie, and everyone gets on with their lives.. ..... :)
