Default turn indicator not blinking...

Hi guys,

Hoping you can figure out this problem that's driving me crazy....

Something electrical happened and I can not get the turn indicators to work.

When I turn the indicator right or left nothing happens, the usually lighted indicators and turn signals are black...blotto.... BUT, if I turn on the hazard indicator the flashers come on.

I've changed all fuses in the fuse box and replaced two flashers in the fuse box.... and why two flashers in the fuse box, is'nt one enough???

Help!!!!! has this happened to anyone before and how did you fix it??

Thanks
Kent

If you loose a tail light or front signal the indicator will light but stop blinking is that what happens, sometimes that happens and they go black. If so you may have a bad ground or bad connection to the signal lights. Good Luck

I am guessing a bad ground. I had a dim right park lamp and dim left tail light. The problem was the amber bulb in the park lamp. One pin on the bulb was bent kind of. Also it was black on that side when I took the bulb out. Black on the pin and side of the bulb socket. Replaced the bulb and all was good. The socket was arching aparently and causing a bad ground.

Does the switch feel different than it did when the turn signals worked? Sloppier, not cancelling when turning? Do the brake lights still work? The turn signal switch has all of the stop/turn wiring routed through it and since it's very old it may have broken. You may have to go into the column to find out if the switch needs to be replaced. Not a major effort but you will need a couple of rental tools from Autozone - steering wheel puller and lock ring tool. You can find instructions for column repair in Jim Shea's articles on corvettefaq.com.

Well,

All other lights work, head, tail, brake lights all work and function normally. The turn indicator switch feels fine and gives a crisp click when turning the indicator stick left or right.

Is there a main power lead that supplies power to the turn indicator system?

Which fuse is for the turn indicator? The lettering has worn off and can not be read. I also tried owners manuals and they are not very much help either.

If found and there is no power at the fuse, where would I go next? I do remember seeing two flashers at the fuse box. Is one for hazard and the other for turn signal?

Turn Flasher is on passenger side above the courtesy light.

sometimes its the horn pad or button not setting correctly in the steering wheel, mine did the same thing,i had popped off the horn pad, the one you toot the horn with, and put it back on,but it was slightly out of kilter, i just wiggled the pad a little left and right and now the left blinker works, tho every once in a while i still have to wiggle the horn button to get the left signal to blink.

One for turn signals; one for hazard flasher.

Replace the fuse. I've seen new fuses which were bad right out of the box.

Looking back at your others threads I'm guessing your working on a 79 not a 69.
The turn signal fuse is the lower left fuse-20 amps.
The turn signal flasher is the one at the bottom of the box on the right.
As Mike said a new fuse can be bad but the most common I see is the fuse not making good contact where it plugs in the box.
With a test light touch both sides of the TS fuse, then check both contacts at the flasher and see if you have power on them. From there we start checking wires in the harmonica connector on the side of the column.

Passenger side above the courtesy light. I did not find a round flasher like that on the fuse box but did find a orange flat box with some wires coming out of it. Is this the flasher you are talking about?

If, as is implied by your sig, you have a '69, then that's where the turn flasher is. If the orange box unplugs and has the familiar flasher plug, then that's it.

However, if Roger's guess is correct, then ignore my post!
