An original tru LT-1 in the 20 to 25K range will be in poor condition
A good quality driver with most of the original pieces will start at 30K
To get a high #2 o low # 1 car with smog / TI still present will start getting in the 45 and up range
The car you want is out there, just keep looking.
Thanks
David
Keep telling yourself that and the seller will gladly take your $45k instead of $25k .......like I just paid ....for my 1972 LT-1 coupe WITH AIR CONDITIONING, p/w,p/s,p/b,tilt/tele,stereo, and smog pump. Yes it's matching numbers, date codes, and an original A/C LT-1. Get 'em while they're hot, before the market bounces back.

I do not think getting an original matching numbers 72 LT-1 with air for 25K is normal at all ,if it is in a high #2 or low #1 condition as I mentioined. There are always extrem cases. My brother in law got a 750,000.00 forclosed house in a very rural area for 400K about 5 years ago. Bank had tried to sell it for 3 years and it was just too far out in the booniesand no one wanted it. These things are execptions not the rule.
Happy for your buy, sounds like you hit a home run.

Correction:
He got a 400k house for 400k.
Welcome to the new economy.
It's something all of us have to get used to.
The economy has reduced the demand for many high $ items. Corvettes being one of them. The number of true buyers with cash or credit available to them is now very limited, compared to years past. And you see the effect on the housing market. Same with collector cars. Many owners are still in denial, and believe that they can get "Barrett Jackson" prices (where I believe that many of those buyers are out of touch with reality as well). So yes, it IS a buyers market. Unfortunately, all too often these days, its due to a seller losing their job and maybe close to losing their home. I don't think we're done seeing alot of prices being compromised yet.
I've had this '71 LT1 shortblock for about 30 years. It's out of a Camaro Automatic "CGR"
As you can see the "R" is double stamped. It may not look just right, but it is original.
Meanwhile the elephant in the room has been totally ignored in this thread, the facts are that about 1/2-2/3 of the NCRS winner cars out there are fakes....hardball fact.....NCRS types do not want to believe that, but it's true....
and I have seen it done myself, by folks who really know more than the NCRS judges....
SO any time someone tries to sell ME on any resto of ANY car, vette included, I just ignore all that stuff, as basically a worthless paper chase with NO PAPERS even, for the vettes of that era.....
but then again, I don't care to house some garage queen that only goes to shows, either.....
