I'm thinking about going ahead and re-wiring my 78 while I've got the interior stripped out. What's a good place to get a complete wiring harness for my car. I know painless makes one, does anybody know who has the best prices?
I put a 18 Circuit G.M. style Painless harness in my 69. They do not make a direct fit for the Vette. I got it from Summit around $250. You wil still have to hardwire the gauges, etc and use your old wire ends for the lights, etc.
The good part is I have nice modern style fuses, new wires, and all of them are labled. The bad news is that you have to hard wire it all!!!! The only direct plug part is the steering column/ignition switch/blinker harness.
I had to remove the horn relay from the fuse panel for it to fit in the stock location and tuck that under it. Other than that, it fit right in.
Like I said, this will require some degree of hard wire finishing work. However, the price is VERY reasonable, and you will have a modern style harness when complete.
lectriclimited is great for complete systems. I guess it all depends on your budget and skill level.
most of the vendors harnesses are made by either lectric or m&h , both good companies , you can order them thru Gary Gruhala at 636-586-3909 at a discount. I have called m&h a dozen times to ask them questions always take care of me.
When it came time for my shop to choose which electrical wiring supplier to become a dealer for, we chose M&H, though we have nothing negative to say about Lectric Limited. According to M&H sales staff, their wire insulation is up to todays fire resistant standards were as others may be more set on original standards.
