Exhaust system from Volunteer
Has anyone here ordered a complete exhaust system from Volunteer? They have one for my '71 BB for $309 with free shipping. Although I don't drive the car, my current system is quite old so I would like to replaced everything from the manifold back so it looks and sounds decent if I decide to sell.

Any comments would be appreciated.
Alan 71....if you read this post, what is your opinion on the location of the exhaust tips. I've seen some photos where they stick out and hang down. I prefer a tighter look so they blend in with the contour of the rear. I know, it's probably just personal taste anyway.

That looks like a decent deal. I have heard there is a noticeable difference in sound between these aftermarket kits and the originals. It would be nice to hear how this compares. I need to remove headers/side pipes on a 71, but would like to sound better than the last set I installed.

Hi 71 G,
The original short pipe coming out of the muffler had a 'tab' welded to it. The exhaust tip had a 'slot' of a certain size and length cut into it's tube. When the tip's 'slot' was slid on the 'tab', the tips's length and angle was set. It's shown in the AIM, UPC 8, Sheet A-4.
IF the drawing of the bezel and tip is somewhat accurate it looks like the tips sticks out 1" to 1-1/2" beyond the bezel. The bezel angle looks to be set by how the short piece of pipe is welded to the muffler and how the muffler is hung from the last hanger.
Hope this helps a little.
Regards,
Alan

Volenteers systems are made by East Tennessee Corvette. I've had excellent luck with East Tenn's systems. From my experience the fit of their systems has been excellent. If your looking for NCRS quality, give them a call. As Alan said there are little nuances to the exhaust that may not come on this basic system, but I think they do make updates, such as welded pipes.
Have to agree - Corvette Central had an excellent system that looks just great on my 'Vette (I did not get original mufflers (Magnaflows instead - sounds excellent) but the pipes are exact copies).
