Default 82 corvette 350

I have aquired a 350 duel crossfire engine out of a 82 vette. My question is how can I beef up this engine from its factory 200 hp rating and what is the most I can expect to get out of this engine without going into the bottom end and leaving the stock heads on ? I would love to build a kick but engine but I just do not have the money. I think the most I could afford is changing the cam and lifters. I also will be switching intakes to a 4 bbl. and using headers instead of the factory manifolds. What is the most hp I can get with these changes. Thanks

Just throw the headers on, fix up the exhaust system, and wait till you have $$ to do the rest of the stuff. There'll be a big gain right there.

I have an 81. When I got it, it was bone stock. Other than the crossfire the two are the same engine. I pulled the computer controlled components and put on a Qjet carb and dist that is not computer controlled. I Also pulled the smog crap, and added headers and 2.5 inch true chambered duals. And let me say this, it is a real kick now, it does everything I ask of it, and sounds suuuweeeet! I also picked up MPG. I bought the carb from a guy for 40 bucks it was a low mileage unit from a 79. I bought the HEI from Ebay and it is a good 56K volt wiseco unit for 35 bucks and it works great! I bought the headers from a forum member. So all I am saying is, you can unleash some ponies for little bucks if you just be patient and watch for deals. And in the future a pair of Vortec heads and a cam and even more power. Have fun!

I have a 305 in my car now that has a rod knock but it also has the quadrajet carb and 4bbl intake. Also has the none computer HEI ignition and headers. So I am just going to switch all these over. I was wondering about the fuel pump though,on the vette is it in the gas tank or on the engine?

I believe the limiting factor on your '82 engine is the puny throttle bodies. You can add heads and a cam, but those injectors will not provide enough 'juice' to make good use of them. You can buy larger throttle bodies for that intake. Hopefully others with more knowledge can offer specific advice.
