Looked back at some pix of when I refurbed mine which had similar wear at the sealing surface...pretty much the exact same issue you have. Drove the seals as deep as possible and have had no issues at all (4 years and running).

The only weirdness I had involved the yokes themselves...when I first inserted them they stuck out more than the beat ones I was replacing (See pix). Turns out they were actually cut too long. Returned to the vendor and we went through his stock to find the shortest ones to limit the space between the shield and the housing. He, an incredibly reputable mechanic and vendor, helped me seat the seals and secure the yokes, calmy reassuring me that all would be well even with the case wear. Thankfully he was right, all is well, even without epoxy (although that sounds like a fine idea).
