Default DIN stereo install

I have found some old posts regarding an adapter plate for a DIN CD stereo player. It appears American International part # FP-306 may work for my 1976.

Has anyone recently ordered this face plate and what success have you had ?

The gauge bezel on your car is not a 'generic' design. You cannot change the control shaft spacing by merely adding another faceplate. You will have to modify your existing gauge bezel (rather difficult and often results in breaking the fragile pot metal bezel) or [a better choice, IMO] buy another Corvette gauge bezel made with DIN shaft hole spacing. Many of the Corvette aftermarket places sell them. But, there is significant expense involved (~$100) and swapping the bezel is a PITA.

I bought that plate and it worked fine. You do have to cut the existing faceplate which can be tricky. I took my time and kept trimming it so it was a snug fit. That cover fits over nicely and it looks good. Better than spending the 240 bucks for a new gauge plate. Here you can kind of see the plate and new radio.

I bought one from millionbuy.com a few years back.

Worked great.

Thanks for your posts and pictures. This is exactly what I need. I am prepared to cut the cluster bezel to get the plate to fit.

Was there a method to secure the plate to the bezel after it has been modified to fit?

It has been a few years since the install, but if I recall correctly, you simply need to slide the rectangular cage that comes with the radio into the adapter and then both into the orignal bezel. There are a series of metal tabs on the back of the cage that you bend in various places to hold the cage and adapter to the bezel.

Thanks all for the reply's on the install. Has anyone ordered this part direct from American International?

I would need it sent to Canada. Does anyone know of Canadian dealers?

I have been able to order this part in Canada from Best Buy``. The part number is BKFP-306 1969-1976. The price was under $40.00 dollars all in, Canadian. Turn around time was 7 days. I have yet to cut the opening but it appears it will work covering the hole for a DIN stereo.
