If the pushrod came down through the motor yes there is something broken in the block and it would be trashed.
You don't think it could make it through without block damage ? Seems like I have heard guys "SAY" they dropped a pushrod while installing and the rod ended up in the pan. Never tried to fit one through but I can easily see if it made it the crank could tap it through the pan no problem.
That pushrod LOOKS perfect.
Hmmm.Betcha this engine still has all 16 pushrods in the intended position or close by.The odds of a random pushrod laying on the pavement where you stopped a knocking motor are pretty high, but not as high as the pictured pushrod getting through the oil pan un scathed...
That push rods showroom clean, someone from c4/c5 must be BSing us! Theres absoulutly no way. Ive tossed rods, broke cams, broke cranks,Even cracked a block to the extent that the only thing holding it together was the oil pan and the intake!Ive never seen a pushrod leave an engine and still be good enough to reinstall it and run. WTF....
The only way I could figure this happened is your cam broke and the lifter shot out too and is still in the motor, this allowed the rod to get propelled threw the oil pan.
Something certainly fishy going on here. For that pushrod to go from functioning to "through the pan" would mean that it would have to pass the cam and crankshaft. Without so much as a mark?? Perhaps a lifter collapsed and left so much slop that it shot out of the lifter cup and went right down an oil return passage? But without so much as a mark?! If this all pans out, it may be a first.
That is where the rod came out and again I was just idling at the light waiting for it to turn green...But the rod is as straight as can be, so it definitely is one for the record books in my opinion...Just wished it wasn't one for my checkbook!
If that's a new motor installed on 12/8 you may have some recourse.
Pop off the valve covers and let's see if there's a missing push rod.
Please don't let this die.... we ALL want to know the truth now.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
Only way that could happen with no marks is if it was lying it the bottom of the pan from the beginning and finally got into a position to get knocked out by the crank, even that's pushing the envelope of fantasy land, NFW did that come from the top and be in that condition, take the valve covers off I bet you have 16 pushrods there.
