Default help - found oil on engine block

Hey guys:

Walked into the garage today and noticed a stream of liquid underneath my 68 vette. Poped the hood and found the oil on the engine block. I need some help as to what might have caused it. I last drove the car about 3 weeks ago and didn't experience anything unusual nor did I remember seeing oil on the garage floor until today. Thanks!

If it is oil...

1.See if your PCV valve is plugged.

2.Are those intake bolts a recent install? If so you'll need to take them out one at a time and put pipefitting paste on the bolts that's ok for oil and gas. The oil wicks up the bolts and lays on the intake. Of courese those gakset are wet now. If it was mine I'd also replace the intake gaskets.

Someone else may have other things for you to check.

That is not oil. Oil is usually very dark. Coolant is usually either green or orange. I'll bet on coolant.

There's coolant all around the intake. You might want to redo the intake gasket.

Yep that is not your engine block it's your intake manifold. And the green liquid is coolant. First thing I would do is replace the thermostat gasket; and while the thermostat housing is off, change the stat too.

Thanks guys! I recently acquired the car and I don't have any history on it. As you can tell, I am not much of a mechanic. Is it safe to drive to the shop to get the work done? Thanks.

First check your coolant level in the radiator, and then drive it down there.

Certainly not oil with this color and viscosity, but most likely coolant.

The liquid could come from the upper heater hose or its fitting near the thermostat.
Some of the intake mounting bolts also need to be waterproof. Use Permatex or Loctite sealant on the threads.
It can also be a bad intake or thermostat gasket. In the first case, you'll have to remove the intake manifold to cure the problem.

If you want to know precisely where it comes from, clean everything thoroughly, then keep the hood opened and start your engine.
Let it run until it reaches normal operating temperature so the coolant pressure can increase.
Then you should quickly see some coolant droplets coming from the leaking component.

Checking your previous threads you had a $13,000 fire , the little glass fuel filter might contribute to another.
