Are the shocks original? Rear spring original? What brand are on it now? New shocks and spring always help. But, what condition are all the front end bushings in? Have they been replaced over the years? Look for cracks in the bushings. Also, when was the last time it was aligned? Just a starting point. Everybody will need all of this info to help and probably a couple of things I may not have asked? What shape are the tires in?

Good luck.

Hard to advise if we don't know how you use it and what is happening on heavy steering use. If you just have an 'aging' vehicle, you certainly need to change out the shocks and put fresh rubber cushions on the front suspension components. The rear spring should be a monoleaf job; if it is not damaged, you shouldn't need to change that. A rear suspension in bad shape (bushings shot, etc.) will make the car feel 'squireley' (sp?) even if the front is decent.

If it has the gymkahna suspension, it will be stiffer. It also will not have the monoleaf spring it will have the steel rear springs and a rear sway bar and a larger front swaybar. My 81 has this setup, and although an old car that needs new bushings, it corners like its on rails. However it is a rough ride at times. New shocks are a good start.
