Folks argue both ways on which goes down first when you install both layers. I tend to think it would be better to put the foil down first to reflect the radiant heat and insulate first, rather than to let the soundproofing soak up the heat and just keep it in there. But, that's just my 2 cents.

The reflective technology is used everywhere, roofs, a/c ductwork, space (Nasa), inside appliances, etc, etc, etc. The good stuff is alum or mylar

Here is a link that explains the basics. Attic, spaceship or car, same principles.

Google for "peel and stick" roofing material. Same stuff you guys are buying at 1/3 time the price. It's available in several substrats under the foil.

Remember GM put the aluminum reflective tunnel insulation under the floor, not inside the cabin.

With the prices hushmat wants, I'd give it the Obama sales pitch too if I were them.

For the firewall (engine compartment) and underside of the floors of my 69, I am going to use this hi-tech product called "Micro Louver Air Shield" from Thermo-Tec, which I saw at the SEMA show last year. http://www.thermotec.com/products/11...ir-shield.html

I noticed several OEMs were using something similar.

Product blurb: Lightweight yet durable, the aluminum Micro Louver Air Shield features micro air louvers, which allow air to flow through the metal shield. The movement of the vehicle creates dynamic air flow, cooling by natural convection. The textured surface created by the micro air louvers creates more area for heat dissipation. The Micro Louver Air Shield is flexible yet durable; it bends and flexes easily by hand, making a custom fit trouble-free.

I will install it where the stock firewall and floor heat shields were installed leaving at least a 1/2" gap for air flow cooling. In addition, I am going to try and wrap my TKO600 trans (top & sides) with this stuff using a couple of large tie wraps or bands.

This all might seem like over kill; but with my Big block motor and a 115 degrees air tempeture in July and August, I need all the help I can get.
