Well, here is one for you I am in the middle of installing a vintage air (direct Fit) system in my 73, everything went great until I went to re-assemble the console. The temp wheel on the control assembly is hitting the shifter bracket. This is the same console, same control assembly (with a little mod for the electronic controls) that were in the car. None of the mods affected how the control unit fit into the bracket, yet some how its appears to be lower. The mounting holes for the console line up with any unusual coaxing.
The entire console might be sitting a little low, pull up on the console before tightening the side screws especially the ones on each side of the radio.
Yes to the control assembly, really only one way to put it in. The side screws all line up with no problems, but I agree with the fact that the console is sitting lower than normal. I am going to take it apart again and see if I can relieve some of the stress but on the small guage bezel by the new AC hoses.
