Default Motor mount question

The mounts I have appear to be the originals, and I had the L-48 rebuilt to somewhere around 320hp (vroom!). I think they are in good shape except where they meet the frame brackets.

Borrowing an image from MAM...

The mount rubber on mine is good, but the part of the mounts that meet the frame have the rubber worn off, so one is snug but the other has some play. Is it imperative that both mounts be snug with the rubber there or does it not matter once I get the motor in and the mounting bolt tightened down?

Thanks and sorry if it is a dumb question - figured I would ask the experts before buying a new pair

I'm not positive that I understand what you're seeing. The only rubber on the engine mounts is between the two metal halves. If the part that attaches to the motor is solidly attached to the part that attaches to the frame, you're good to go.

I would be fairly surprised if the mounts are original and still in good shape. Along side a hot and oily engine for more than 30 years isn't a very good place for rubber.

I think what he meas is that there is like a rubber coatign on the out side of the metal parts that is worn off. This doesn't mean the mout is bad.

No matter what they look like, I wouldn't trust that rubber. I would replace those mounts with newer poly ones with the interlocking safety catches. I just replaced one fo the original mounts which broke on my 76 with a spare rubber interlocking mount I had on the shelf. When I get a chance I will repalce both with poly interlocking mounts. My 73 I replaced the originals with solid mounts since it is strictly an autocross car.

Never install a new/rebuilt engine using used motor mounts of unknown origin.

Guys,
While we are at it does anyone know what the torque would be on the horizontal bolts? I too just installed new mounts and cannot find the torque for these bolts. Thanks.

If you mean the big long one that holds the mount to the frame, it's 25-35 Lb-ft. Mount to block is 30-40 Lb-ft.
