Default dual snorkle air flap function how?

1979 air cleaner- How exactly do the air flaps work on the dual snorkle air cleaner? My understanding is. At start up they are both closed because of vacuum, the green AC air sensor warms up, and thus opens the front one by blocking the vacuum. But, the sensor is not connected to the side flap so how exactly does that one work then? Doesnt seem right to have that a restriction 100% of the time and non functional.

I think on mine there is a T fitting under the air cleaner assy, !

Exactly. At startup, the flaps are closed which opens the hole for the exhaust manifold heat. A vacuum line with a t-fitting is used. Can't remember where it connects to on the QJet. I don't use this function anymore even though I still use the stock CAI.

It connects at the rear of the Q-jet on the bottom!

The left and right flapper diaphragm hoses come together in a "T" fitting. The "T" goes to the thermostatic switch. The thermostatic switch goes to a manifold vacuum port on the rear of the carb throttle plate.

yes i see that part but...the T fitting splits off. one to the thermostatic switch (controls the front flap only) the other part of the T fitting goes directly to the side fender flap. So how does the side flap function if its not connected to the thermostatic switch then?

is it that the faster the car goes the less vacuum there is thus opening that side flap?
