Default 70 LT-1 distributor

Looks like you need a 1111496 distributor if you have a points setup, or a 1111971 if you have a transistorized ignition setup.

I can't help with advise on a rebuild...but if you need a dist. post it in the parts for sale/wanted section.

BTW, welcome to the forum

Here's a good place for TI systems. All 70 and 71 LT-1s came with TI.

Not true! In '71, the LS6 had the TI ignition system as "standard". But the LS5 and the LT1 engines only received the TI system as an option. The 'base' engine didn't even offer the TI system as optional equipment.

Anyway, to the poster's question: Unless you want to go with the TI system, the best person to rebuild your distributor (and your Q-jet or Holley carb, for that matter) is Lars Grimsrud. If you would like to ask him if he would do so, you can e-mail your request to him at V8FastCars@msn.com. In past years, his prices have been very reasonable for the high quality of work performed.

Pretty sure that TI was part of the LT-1 in 70 and 71 and ALL 70 and 71 LT-1s had TI. I don't believe any other cars came with TI 70-72 except the LS6. The currect distributor for a 70 LT-1 is 1111491 with a 272 coil.

lt1tiffany, tell us more about your car. What distributor and coil is currenty in the car? Is there a ti amplifier in front of the driver wheel well?

K-66 mag pulse TI distributors aren't cheap. I have a spare core but, it would take $500 to seperate me from it. $650 for it completley rebuilt, you would need a reproduction tag from Paragon Corvette to make it NCRS acceptible. The mechanical advance is the correct one for a HP motor.

If you really want to see a high $$$ K-66 TI distributor, I have a 1111263 ball bearing tach drive distributor, thats $1000 to own

Dave,

Here is more info on how the system works and, as we discussed, that the Ignition Coil is VERY specific to the Transistor Ignition. Even though this article is written for Camaros, it still pertains to your setup on the Vette. http://www.camaros.org/trans_ign.shtml

Here is an option:

I have a 72 LT-1. Years ago I replaced the stock distributor with a MALLORY 38 SERIES UNILITE and have to say it's the best move I ever made. Absolutely no regrets. It fits under the shielding and has the tach drive.

I'll throw in a Lectric Limited replacement K-66 ignition coil on the distributor deal if your really buying one. I always keep a spare for myself for my wife's 70 LT-1.

Do you have the correct distributor now and just need to have it rebuilt, or do you want to buy a new unit?

What's wrong with your existing unit?

(give us a clue)
