Weird Temp Guage Problem
Ok folks, My temp gauge in my 82 works perfectly... Until you turn the lights on and turn up the dimmer switch and then the gauge pegs out until you either turn down the dimmer switch or turn the lights off. Do I just need to replace the gauge or????

Don't drive at night. OK smartalec remarks aside, when the temp gauge pegs out, the wire to the sender is finding a ground somewhere. Look for chaffing wires. As wombvette said, check the condition of the circuit board on the back of the gauge cluster.

Isn't it cool that you can make your car run hot or cold with the dimmer switch!!!!! 
Sorry had to say it. My '81 did the same darn thing and I found a couple loose nuts on the printed circuit board/guage cluster, don't ask!!! Just as someone else said it was a ground problem.
