the plastic retainer type grommet, that holds the lead ball at the end of the cable under the dash keeps popping out, leaving me on the side of the street lately. i ordered 2 new ones from willcox and they go rite in,but after driving a mile or so it pops out.so while putting in the clip the last time i was moving the gas pedel to make room to work on the retainer, and after the retainer was in, i saw that by moving the gas pedel, the retainer would work itself back out,,and thats my problem.i really hate to tape around it,or caulk it in,or bubba it,,so whats a guy to do? thanks everyone.,,,tom
Hi Tom,
Is your cable the right length and adjusted properly?
I'd think the constant tenson from the slug on the end of the cable would keep the grommet in place.
Does your pedal have a bit of 'slop' in it whan you first start to push it down?
Regards,
Alan
hi Alan, and thanks for chimming.doesnt have any slop in pedel or cable, but i was just lying on my back, peering up at the grommet and cable again, and seems the cable doesnt slide smoothly through the sleeve,so when you let go of the gas pedel, the cable probably pushes rearward,,,sooo,i tried to adjust the what seems to be an aftermarket cable with a nut on the inside and on the outside of the firewall,,,and did get it to alighn better for the cable to move in and out more smoothly...you see the old owner put a edelbrock 1406 on it,and the cable from the carb. isnt exactly going perfectaly straight into the firewall, making things abit iffy also. but you were on the right track with maybe too much cable play, and thats exactly what it is,because of my non-smooth cable movement,,,althou i did improve on that only minutes ago. thanks as per usual,,tom.
