Yes, and give me a list of the stuff tech looked for, in order for you to be deemed "safe".
I was going to start auto crossing this summer, but then my seat belt, or, the area where it's connected, rotted out. Still saving for a replacement, lol.
It was a low turnout today and only 3 C3 cars were running. I was one of them Jay 73jst4fun was another. All 3 of us ran good and our times were pretty close. I have some video and there are some pictures that I will post a little later.
It was a pretty small turnout, but I still had a great time! (even though I had some last minute engine problems) Ive got some video, but I was going to edit it before I uploaded it. I will definitely be looking for some more auto-x days to go to now.
It was nice to meet Gordon and Jay also.

They checked wheel bearings, seatbelts and helmet. They took a look under my hood, but im not sure what they were looking for. It was a pretty quick inspection overall.

Post or e-mail me what you have please.
I did the slow thing this weekend and won the car show and shine in the modified/racing/prostreet division.
I spent 10 man hours detailing out my 79 Vette. I used Miguires car polish on the first two coats and hand buffs. Then miguires carnuba wax and hand rubbed out. I used mother aluminum polish on my wheels. I used tire foam no touch under the hood on everything black.
I put on my front 295 width R6 road racing slicks and had the rear 335 Kumho's on the rear. Turned down the idle to 900 rpm with only 14 degrees of advance to get it to shake at idle. I put in 20% methanol with 110 leaded race gas to give them all a whiff for the car running period
No, no, no. The rubber parts in your fuel system are for petroleum based fuels only. Hoses, fuel pumps, accelerator pump diaphragms, carb gaskets, etc. can all be damaged by methanol. Leading to leaks and other bad stuff. FIRE.
I'm jealous, especially with a small turn out. I have never auto crossed
yet and probably wont get to this year do to a busy life. With the small
turn out, does that give you more opportunity for more runs? I would love
to have the opportunity to let it hang out on the track, I wouldn't care
about my times to much at first, I would be having to much fun running the
coarse.
I have my popcorn and I'm ready for the videos to start

Waxer!

Modern methanol has additives, but anyway you run the tank straight through and then go fill up with straight gas and drive around so the methanol is not sitting in your lines and carb. I used to race and pit crew 100% alki motors. So anyway my Vette was even ran with a drag motor hilborn injected on 100% methanol. I've used Methanol for 20 some years and at the shop we buy it by the 55 gallon drum for our methanol race motors

I'm a SCCA Safety Steward and they were under your hood looking to make sure you have a good return spring on your carburetor. Also they should have looked to see if your battery is tied down and won"t move.

Most likely they were looking for any loose belts, hoses, etc. Also looking to see if there were any obvious leaks anywhere. If there were actually classes, they would have been looking to see if there were any obvious stuff that would disqualify you for your class and bump you in to another.
I do tech for most of the Indiana Region NCCC events. I mostly just check to make sure the car is safe to run. I would check to see if your helmet is up to date, hub caps are off, lugnuts are tight, seatbelts are not worn or broken, battery secure, steering wheel is secure, tires in good shape, brake pedal is firm, no leaks, and nothing is going to fall off. Most people who drive their cars to the event will pass pretty easily. If not, what it takes to fix it usually doesn't take much.

Riggs.
Come on over to Grissom Air base in Peru, IN in on August 20-21. We are having a 14 event weekend. That means there will be 7 events per day with 2 runs per event. That's 14 runs per day with a total of 28 for the weekend. Flyers can be seen on our website at www.indianaregion.org.
You don't have to worry about competing against others, just compete against yourself. That is half the fun anyways. If you keep improving throught the day, you are doing good.
Vettehardt, I might have to come over sometime, If I could ever get
a moment to even break away from every day life. Sure does sound like
fun.
Hey guys, any luck with the photos and videos yet. looks like you had
a good time there.
Vette427-sbc, how did you like your first time at auto cross? was it difficult
to tell were the course was leading to with all those cones or did it leave you plenty
of time to just drive?

Riggs.
It was a blast! I am officially hooked.
I thought the same exact thing when I looked at the track for the first time. The people hosting the event let everyone do a drive-through of the course, and then I took my first (out of 4) practice run to get to know the course. When you drive it a couple times, it becomes very easy to see where the track goes. After my 3rd or 4th run I was finding my lines and braking zones and stopped having to think about where the track goes. It was also good to learn the handling and braking limits of my car, and where it really needs improvements most.
