The battery box behind the seat has alot of damage to it from a leaking battery. Ive cleaned it and it is still solid.I also bought new hold downs but want to repair finish befor moving on. What should I be using to finish the inside of the box?

if the glass has been damaged by acid, you'll have to reinforce it. to keep the interior appearance stock, you'll have to add glass to the underside. cut strips (i used cloth because it conforms to the curves more easily) of glass and epoxy from the sides(starting as high up as you can) across the bottom to the other side. as far as the interior finish, just use regular epoxy primer and paint.

Or, if the battery has been riding around in there without problem, just install the battery and go along your merry way. With the battery installed, you really can't see the interior of the box, anyway. Or paint the inside if you want...

I repaired my battery box this past winter. I re-glassed the interior "bottom", installed new battery hold down hardware, repainted the insides flat black, and added some sound deadening material in all three compartments. Also, don't forget to redrill an emergency drain hole in the bottom of the compartment for venting and in case the battery overflows/leaks, etc. Good luck.

The inside is the only place with damage and the box is still strong. The gel coat is gone and I cleaned it really good with a wire brush and acetone. Do I have to use glass or can I just use the epoxy and then paint?

I would think that a thin coat of epoxy is fine, as long as the box itself is not damaged/cracked. Just be sure you have a vent/drain hole in the bottom.
