Remove the tack / speedo unit from dash. This exposes the end of the speedo cable....apply drops of light weight oil and let it run down inside the cable sheath. Going to take several hours for the oil to flow inside....take your time.

If you have cruise control, you can also break it loose there, and oil it. It's easier than getting at it under the dash!

You guys might want to take a loot at this about speedo cable lubricant. (s)

While they can and often do solve your bounce problems the residual long term effects are negative.

As one that rebuilds Speedo's and Tachometers, I've seen the results first hand! The cable is reverse wound and it will pull the grease in to the head! Once the grease begins to accumulate it will also attract dirt and dust and eat away at the first worm and magnet bushing.

If you are going to the trouble of mucking around under the dash getting the cable disconnected from the speedo, just replace it. They aren't expensive and the most difficult part of the replacement is getting at the back of the speedometer. I tried lubing mine and it lasted a couple of months before it started bouncing again. I wound up replacing it and wishing I had just done that in the first place.

most cables that go bad are between the transducer and the transmission.
