Default BB Water pump
Im replacing the water pump on my big block but i see there is a short or long pump for them how do i tell which one i have.

Corvettes BB all take a pump that is 5.750" from clutch mount face to block mount face. (short)

but this BB didnt come from a corvette i belive it was out of a truck does that make a difference

If it's now in your corvette, it has a short pump on it.

If you can fit any finger between the water pump and timing chain cover, then you have a long water pump. The short water pump (big and small blocks) almost touch the timing chain cover.

I say this because I've seen long water pumps on small and big block Vettes.

Also, keep in mind that the shaft on the pump is 3/4" vs 5/8". Check the pump if you replace.

The 70 and older are 5/8" shaft.
