What do people usually charge for rebuilding a Q-Jet?
I'm about to try it myself with my book by Doug Roe but was just curious what Lars usually charges?
Just trying to see if it's worth me doing it or not...
Mine was $500. I would recommend Cliff Ruggles' book over Doug Roe's. I have both, but Roe's book doesn't have specific tuning information and some of the high performance modifications he lists simply don't work.
You are looking at 250 - 300 for a rebuild at Cliff's and others unless there are seriously worn parts like the choke or internals. Here is an option if you are numbers specific. Call or go to Sean Murphy Induction SMI, and ck out the products. He will custom tune a Q-Jet to your specific application and the price is not too from a rebuild to stock. However, call around but be careful as there are lots of "rebuilders" that will charge the same and you get a stock unit with some questionable quality. Stick with one of the two mentioned.

I just had Cliff rebuild my 77 quadrajet a couple of weeks ago. He did a great job and is as great guy to talk carbs with. I don't live that far from him so I delivered my carb to his shop. He showed me around his shop and tore my carb down while I was there. Took the time to explain the fuctions of the parts to me as he tore it down. The quadrajet is hard to beat if set up correctly. I installed it,adjusted the fast idle and the idle. Runs great.
