Default Side Pipe Install Info

I was wondering if any modification to the oil pressure sender would be necessary to install the side mounted headers? Can you still install the rocker panel? I'm getting ready to prep the headers and installing them on the car and need to know these things. Thanks guys.

I didn't have to modify the oil pressure sender on my '68.

To re-mount the rocker panels you will want to remove the rear wheels and feed them in from the back end of the muffler tubes. I believe the '68-'69 might be easier due to the rocker panels being fiberglass but the '70-up are still doable.

When I installed my Hookers I removed the oil sending switch to keep from breaking it. The rockers also have to be removed to install the headers. When I installed mine I jacked the front of the car up as far as I could and the headers slid into place easily. You may or may not need to remove the rear tires to get the rockers back on, and you may or may not have to trim the rockers for clearance. Don't forget to re-install the oil sending switch. 3/4 hours will get you there

Good luck with the headers and pipes:

Hooker includes a drawing with the headers showing the modifications that need to be done to the rocker panel moldings. As with anything from Hooker, don't rely on that info: The drawing tells you to cut way too much off the rockers. Rather, make note of the lower edge of the rockers before you remove them (take a few photos) and then compare that to the sidepipe and headers installation once you have the headers and pipes installed. Using the Hooker drawing only as a reference guide, cut about half of what Hooker recommends to get a tighter nicer fit between the rocker and headers/pipes. You'll end up installing and removing the sidepipes a few times to get the fit right.

I remember the thread you started. I hope I don't have too many problems. I'm going to see how it goes. They are used headers and I still have to paint them, but I'm going to get that done ASAP. Thanks guys.

Other things you have to or should remove:

Dipstick tube
Spark plugs
Oil Sender (to keep from breaking)
Water temp sender (to keep from breaking, especially since the new ones don't read right)
Clutch linkage
Starter (to make life easier)
